Dreams of Peace & Freedom : The human's in the telling

This project will be rolled out over the next 2 years, targeting the dual anniversaries of the opening of IMT Nuremberg (75th), and the signing of the European Convention on Human Rights in Rome (70th) which coincide in November 2020.

It highlights the progression of human rights from Nuremberg to Strasbourg, through the journey of prosecutor and HR champion David Maxwell Fyfe. It revolves around a song cycle, Dreams of Peace & Freedom which weaves his words, and those of poets who inspired him set to music by Sue Casson. Members of Maxwell Fyfe's family tell his story through narrative and song.

Lily Casson sings her own selection of songs from the last 7 decades of musical theatre, whilst her alter-ego The English Singing Baker is inspired by the songs to bake tasty memorabilia. Developed from appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, where she would sing and bake onstage, Lily is active on Intagram, regularly blogging her recipes, and is recording a set of songs with a view to generating a new series of vlogs whilst actively looking for partners to collaborate with her very individual musical brand.

a woman, a piano... and Last Call for Nefertiti

In this unusual cabaret, singer-songwriter Casson reveals the story of her own surprising involvement with the epic search for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, the most beautiful woman of the ancient world. Finding herself unexpectedly rubbing shoulders with a team of archaeologists digging in the Valley of the Kings, she captures their quest and their obsessions in a set of witty and inventive songs. Premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe, this show is now available for intimate soirees.

The Human's In The Telling

The human's in the telling explores how stories are cherished within families, and how families keep stories alive even in a hostile world. Through this family lens, Dreams of Peace & Freedom is now being recorded as a podcast, and subsequently filmed. It will create an intimate history and story of a place and time that remains relevant today.

Dreams of Peace & Freedom is a mixed media performance, which has been in production since 2014, and performed across the UK and Europe.
