Passing behind the curtain, Lily Casson reveals her passion for baking as English Singing Baker.
English Singing Baker is inspired by musical shows to create bakes as a tribute to their brilliance.
Each of the shows in I Heart Musicals - a century of song - has inspired a novelty bake and you are invited to bake alongside her, whilst the soundtrack accompanies your time in the kitchen.
Selecting a song from this library of recordings to match each bake to the show, ESB brings them to life with tips and tricks along the way.
English Singing Baker is the alter-ego of singer and actress,
Lily Casson, who loves to bake. The idea originally came about during a backstage chat during The Happy Prince at the Edinburgh Fringe. It was inspired by Lily’s love of baking at home whilst singing along to the soundtracks of her favourite musicals.

The story of ESB so far...
English Singing Baker made her onstage debut as part of English Cabaret Hour at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014, live baking mini cupcakes to hand out to the audience with a musical selection of standards. The next year, she returned with another stage baked recipe for Cinderella Shortbread with music inspired by the famous fairy-tale.
Following her stage debut, Lily moved her alter-ego online with a series of YouTube videos, ESB Monthly Bakes, with a new bake and accompanying songs with her trusty yellow ukulele, showing her audience how to make the recipes step by step onscreen.
In 2017, English Singing Baker began blogging about her tuneful baking life on A Baker’s Diary. Since then, she has shared recipes for her favourite bakes and travels to share her love for everything baking with a larger audience.
On Love Theatre Day 2020, she released an ebook of recipes inspired by her favourite musicals, ESB Musical Bakes, to accompany Lily’s I Heart Musicals. Each recipe visually conjured up these shows in a fresh way to bring alive the magic of theatre in a time when it has been out of the spotlight.
